Glans Penis (Glans penis)
Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
The glans penis is the highly sensitive, conical distal expansion of the corpus spongiosum crowning the tips of the corpora cavernosa. Surrounded at its base by the corona glandis and retroglandular sulcus, it is perforated centrally by the slit-like external urethral orifice (meatus) and covered by the prepuce in uncircumcised males.
Clinical notes
Balanitis is inflammation of the glans penis; paraphimosis is a urological emergency in which a retracted, stenotic foreskin becomes trapped behind the coronal sulcus, compromising glans perfusion.
