Educational content only — not medical advice.
Anatomy
The nuclei of the right thalamus include the ventral posterolateral (VPL) and ventral posteromedial (VPM) sensory relay nuclei, ventral lateral (VL) motor nucleus, and the pulvinar, coordinating somatosensory processing and multimodal attentional networks.
Clinical notes
Lacunar infarcts of the VPL/VPM nuclei produce pure sensory stroke (pure sensory hemianesthesia) without motor weakness.

What is the role of the Nuclei of Thalamus?
The nuclei of the right thalamus include the ventral posterolateral (VPL) and ventral posteromedial (VPM) sensory relay nuclei, ventral lateral (VL) motor nucleus, and the pulvinar, coordinating somatosensory processing and multimodal attentional networks.
Why is the Nuclei of Thalamus clinically important?
Lacunar infarcts of the VPL/VPM nuclei produce pure sensory stroke (pure sensory hemianesthesia) without motor weakness.
